Laser
Laser hair removal
A clinically-delivered course of laser sessions for genuine long-term hair reduction.
What it is
Laser hair removal uses a focused beam of light absorbed by pigment (melanin) in the hair follicle. The energy converts to heat, damaging the follicle's ability to produce hair while leaving surrounding skin intact. Over a course of sessions, the result is genuine long-term hair reduction — not a guarantee of total permanent loss for every follicle, but a meaningful and lasting change.
We use a wavelength-appropriate device with cooling, and we patch test before any first session — never on the day, never without confirmation that the settings are safe for your skin tone and hair type.
What it treats
- Underarms, lower leg, full leg
- Bikini line, Brazilian, Hollywood
- Forearms, full arm
- Back, chest, abdomen
- Facial areas — upper lip, chin, sideburns, jawline
- Neck (front and back)
How it works
- 1 A no-obligation consultation including patch test, at least 48 hours before any first treatment session. This is non-negotiable — your skin tone, hair colour, and any recent skincare/sun exposure determine the right settings.
- 2 On the day of the session, the area is cleansed and shaved if needed. Cooling is applied throughout.
- 3 The handpiece is moved across the area; sessions take 10 minutes (small areas) to 45 minutes (full legs).
- 4 A course is typically 6–8 sessions, spaced 4–6 weeks apart depending on the area. Hair grows in cycles, so multiple sessions are needed to catch each follicle in its growth phase.
What to expect
Appointment time
10–45 minutes per session depending on area
Downtime
Slight redness for a few hours — similar to mild sunburn. Most clients return to normal the same day.
How it feels
A series of brief warm pulses with a hot snap. Cooling reduces discomfort significantly. Most clients describe it as tolerable; sensitive areas (face, intimate) are sharper.
Aftercare
No sun exposure or sunbeds for 2 weeks before and after each session. SPF 50 mandatory on treated areas. Avoid hot baths, sauna, and vigorous exercise for 24 hours. No plucking, waxing or threading between sessions — shaving only.
Results visible
Visible thinning after 2–3 sessions; meaningful reduction after the full course
How long they last
Long-term reduction. Top-up sessions may be needed every 12–18 months as some follicles can reactivate.
Is this right for you?
A good fit if
- You have dark hair on lighter skin (laser works on contrast — the better the contrast, the better the result)
- You're prepared to commit to a course of 6–8 sessions over 6–10 months
- You can keep the area out of direct sun before and during the course
- You can shave (not wax) between sessions
Not the right time if
- Your hair is white, very blonde, or red (laser cannot target follicles without pigment — IPL or alternative routes may be more suitable)
- You're pregnant
- You have a recent tan or sunburn
- You have a history of keloid scarring
- You are on certain photosensitising medications — please disclose in consultation
- You have an active skin infection, herpes outbreak, or recent skin procedure in the area

FAQs
How many sessions before I see a difference?
Most clients see visible thinning after the second or third session. The full course of 6–8 sessions delivers the longer-term reduction. Hair grows in cycles, which is why we space sessions 4–6 weeks apart and need multiple to catch all follicles in their active growth phase.
Is it really permanent?
The phrase used in the industry is "long-term hair reduction," not "permanent removal." The reality is that most clients see meaningful, lasting reduction — but some follicles can reactivate over months or years. A top-up session every 12–18 months keeps the result stable.
Does it hurt?
Tolerable for most people, with cooling. Sensitive areas — face, intimate, underarms — are sharper. Many clients describe it as 'an elastic band snap' rather than pain. We adjust settings as needed for comfort.
Why the mandatory patch test?
Because skin reacts differently to laser at different settings, and the consequence of getting it wrong is burns or pigmentation changes that can take months to resolve. A 48-hour patch test gives us — and you — confidence before we treat a full area. No exceptions.
Can I have it if I'm tanned?
No. Laser hair removal on tanned skin (natural sun, sunbeds, or self-tanner) carries a real risk of burns and pigmentation changes. We require at least 2–4 weeks since any tan or fake-tan before treating.
Will it work on my hair colour?
Laser targets pigment, so dark hair on lighter skin gives the best results. White, very blonde, or red hair contains little or no melanin, and traditional laser cannot target those follicles effectively. We will tell you honestly at consultation if you are not a good candidate.
